Tim Cook's reign at Apple might be nearing its end, and the rumor mill is churning out potential successors faster than you can say "iPhone upgrade." But according to Bloomberg, there's a frontrunner: John Ternus, the man behind all your favorite Apple gadgets (except maybe that glowing fruit stand).
This ain't your grandpa's CEO race. Ternus isn't vying for the job with a dramatic product launch or a flashy keynote (although he can definitely give a good presentation, according to the insiders). No, Ternus is the quiet achiever, the guy who's been steadily climbing the Apple ladder since 2001. He's overseen the engineering of everything from iPads to AirPods, and even played a key role in ditching Intel for Apple's own chips in Macs.
So why Ternus? Well, he's young (well, young-ish for a CEO, at 49), well-liked, and apparently has a knack for avoiding controversy (unlike some emailers we know). Plus, Cook seems to be a big fan.
Of course, there are always dark horses in the race. But for now, all signs point to Ternus taking the reins and leading Apple into a new era. Just don't expect him to unveil the iCar anytime soon – that dream might have to stay shelved for a while.
